Uniforms, Unite Classes in Comfort

There are lovers of ballet all over the world, and in each new generation there are those who feel drawn to this traditional form of dance. By far the best way to learn any sort of new dance is to attend specialist lessons. These should be run by professional dance tutors, trained to help people of all personality types and skill levels to achieve their very best. Ballet teacher should be encouraging, offer praise when it is due and have enough time to pay individual attention to students. For this reason, classes which seem to have a very large number of students per tutor should be avoided.

Parents quite understandably try to provide the very best education for their offspring. If they can afford it, many choose to send their sons and daughters to private schools which charge fees. Others try to gain places at schools with good reputations through tests and scholarships, some even moving house to be in the catchment areas of good educational establishments. For those who choose to send their children (or indeed themselves!) to a ballet class, similar care should be taken when choosing the dance school. Always visit dance classes before enrolling, to check how many students attend and to see how well a tutor interacts with students. Remember they should be encouraging, understanding and have enough time to pay individual attention to students. Good quality dance classes can be quite pricey however, and there are also other costs to take into account, one of which is the ballet uniform.

The majority of dance schools will specify which uniform style they require students to wear. To a novice this can be a great relief, as the number of brands, styles and cuts available in dance wear can seem very complicated. It may well be that our child does not like a dance class ballet uniform; they may well have had an existing idea of what it would entail beautiful tutus and gorgeous slippers. The majority of ballet uniforms are chosen for practicality, the more stunning outfits are generally left for shows and special performances! The main aim of dance lesson clothing is to be comfortable, flexible, allow movement and enable tutors to assess performance easily. Plain looking garments are preferred for these reasons.

Another benefit of having a set ballet uniform is to make sure that everyone attending a class feels equal. This is a major reason why school uniforms are worn, to prevent students being judged by others based on the clothing they would otherwise wear. Many believe that wearing a uniform helps to promote a sense of belonging, of being part of a certain team. If a student enjoys their class and thinks highly of their tutor/s, then they will be proud to wear a uniform which shows that they are being well and professionally taught. Enjoying ballet lessons is very important, but safety and comfort (both physical and psychological) must take priority. As performance improves, opportunities will arise for more beautiful items of ballet clothing to be worn.
